WHS cheer team takes first at Impact camp
WHS cheer team takes first at Impact camp
WILMINGTON HIGH SCHOOL'S competitive cheer team attended the UCA Impact camp at Illinois State University from July 6 to the 9th. The team learned cheers, dances and stunts throughout the week, and on the final day the team took first in the camp championship. Individual honors went to Kassidy Andrews and Alec Beasley for being named to the All-American team. They received a medal and an invitation to perform in London's New Year's Day Parade. Only nine campers in total received the honor. The team includes (kneeling, from left) Brianna Sanchez, Breanna Petty, Katie Aanerud and Lauren Rhodes. Wilmington, Coal City to compete in powerlifting
The Coal City vs. Wilmington I-8 Powerlifting Meet will be held at Coal City High School on Friday.

The Coalers came out on top last year to claim the team title, while Wilmington's Bailey Boswell will be returning to defend his individual top lifter title.

A 2,000-year-old exercise that's easy on the body
Comfort and exercise seldom go together, but when it comes to learning tai chi, the body blends them well. Beginning next week local residents can join in this gentle, 2,000-year-old Chinese exercise.

Sunshine Garden Center in Diamond will begin tai chi sessions on July 30, while the Wilmington Lion's Club will host sessions starting on July 31.

Swearengen brothers heading to national soccer tournament
In Wilmington, boy's soccer is usually put on the back burner, as football and wrestling tend to steal the spotlight.

However, for the Swearengen family, soccer is No. 1, and Dylan and Dawson will be heading to Indianapolis this weekend to participate in the National Tournament.

Wildcat wrestlers bring home five medals
Wilmington High School and Middle School sent five wrestlers to the Midwest Nationals Tournament this past weekend.

The tournament was held on July 11, at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center in Bloomington, IL.

Battle of Sexes, Slammers vs. Bandits
The Joliet Slammers and the Chicago Bandits of National Pro Fastpitch will play in a Battle of The Sexes Fastpitch Softball game at Silver Cross Field, Joliet, on Monday, July 20, at 7:05 p.m. The gates will open at 6:05 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Rule changes for the 2016 baseball and softball seasons were made at the rules committee meetings last month in Indianapolis. Those changes were subsequently approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)
