Plano sneaks past Wildcats for seventh place
The game was close throughout and the Wilmington basketball team fell just short to Plano 50-48 in the seventh place game of the I-8 conference tournament Thursday in Braidwood.
"I could not be more proud of how my boys bounced back tonight. We have been in a bit of a funk the last two games," said head coach Matt Hines.
"We switched up the starting lineup and our rotation off the bench quite a bit and the guys responded."
The game was tied at the end of the first three quarters (12-12, 23-23, 35-35).
"Our effort was great. We were able to do some things on the fly and for the most part, they all did their job of keeping Plano in front of us on offense and boxing them out once a shot went up."
Dan O'Leary recorded his second 30 point game of the season and he finished with 30 points and hit five three-pointers. He made the all-tournament team.
"We did a great job of getting the ball to O'Leary tonight," said Hines.
"He got hot in the second half and the guys did a great job getting him the ball in spots where he could score."
Nick Anderson scored 12 points, Justin Kulpa had four points and Nate Rock had two points.
"We only had four guys get in the scoring column, but everybody that got into the game contributed with their floor game."
The Wildcats are now 11-12 on the season. They will travel to Reed-Custer Friday on Coaches vs. Cancer night.
"We are quickly shifting our defensive philosophies and with one day of practice, I like where we are going with it."
"We have plenty of time to tweak with some things and prepare for Reed-Custer."
