Virginia Henderson

MORRIS—Virginia Henderson, 92, of Morris, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 in Morris. Born Aug. 22, 1925 in Minooka, she was the daughter of Carl and Luella (Thompson) Peterson.
Raised and educated in Minooka and Newark, Virginia graduated from Newark High School with the class of 1943. She married James “Jim” Robert Henderson, of Mazon on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1975.
She and Jim were members of the Park Street United Church of Christ in Mazon.  A homemaker at heart, Virginia also worked as a cook at The Feed Bag in Mazon, as a custodian at the Mazon State Bank, and a cafeteria worker at Mazon Grade School. Virginia was very proud of her Norwegian heritage.
She loved to play all sorts of games including Euchre, Scrabble, and Bingo, and enjoyed bowling. Another pastime Virginia enjoyed was square dancing with her husband and children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She loved to spend time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Virginia was especially happy to meet her two brand new great-great-grandbabies born this year.
She is survived by her children: Linda (Dale) Bukes, of Coal City; Jean (Victor) Hemmersbach, of Morris  and Donnie Henderson; 12 grandchildren: Dawn Wren, Debra (Mark) Wilkerson, Matt Hemmersbach, Jason (Kristen) Hemmersbach, Sarah (Tim) Miller, Trisha (Nick) Leckow, Eric (Crystal) Henderson, Becky Clubb, John Henderson and Jeff (Katie) Henderson; 20 great-grandchildren: Sarah (Holly) Wren, Jordan Wren, Jocelyn Wren, Karissa Kaiser, Kody (Courtney) Kaiser, Kasey (Jacy) Kaiser, Katie and Justin Hemmersbach, Jack, Elise, and Anna Leckow; Ayla and Zachary Miller; Beanna Henderson; Nathaniel Henderson; Cameron Henderson; Trent, Aubry, Tanner, and Ayden Henderson; two great-great-grandchildren: Leia Abigail Henderson and Rayna Kay Kaiser.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, son, Robert A. Henderson in 2016; two grandsons, David Lee Bukes in 1981 and Jimmy Henderson in 2013 and four siblings: Evelyn (Edward) Severson, Charline (John) Starks, Genevieve Peterson and Richard Peterson.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 13, 2018 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home. Enhanced video tributes will be played during the visitation.  A Celebration of Virginia's Life will follow at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Tyler Carrell of Park Street United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mazon Brookside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Virginia's name to the Park Street United Church of Christ.
