The VA and VAC continue to support veterans as they learn more about their benefits

The Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission continues to work with the Edward Hines VA Medical Center Outreach Team to educate veterans about their veteran’s benefits.

The Hines Outreach Team and the Grundy County VAC with the support of the village of Channahon will be available to answer questions and provide information about a variety of veteran’s benefits on Wednesday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Village Hall in Channahon 24555 S Navajo Dr., Channahon

This event is free and open to all area veterans no registration is required.

The Hines VAMC team and the Grundy County VAC can answer questions and assist with enrollment in VA health care, service connected disability claims and burial benefits to name a few benefits available to honorably discharged veterans. They also have information regarding the VA’s Vet Centers and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs benefits.

Veterans may be eligible for VA health care benefits if they served in the active military, naval, or air service and did not receive a dishonorable discharge. Those enlisted after Sept. 7, 1980, or entered active duty after Oct. 16, 1981, must have served 24 continuous months or the full period for which you were called to active duty. Other criteria may also make individuals eligible for VA health care. Those enrolling need to bring their DD214 and a photo ID. Those who do not have a copy of their DD 214, the Grundy County VAC can assist you with getting one.

“We are fortunate to have the federal and state resources available to veterans in Grundy County. Having these outreach events is just one way we work to educate veterans and their families.” said Ken Buck, superintendent of the Grundy County VAC.

If you are unable to attend the outreach events you can learn more about your eligibility by contacting the Grundy County VAC at 815-941-3152 or vac@grundycountyil.gov
