Two men arrested for robbery of Gardner bank

Sheriff Kevin Callahan reports that 22 year-old Corey S. Canterbury (top) of Gardner and 22 year-old Daytona Fisher (bottom) of Braceville were arrested on Thursday, July 26, for bank robbery.

Grundy County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a bank robbery at the First Midwest Bank in Gardner on Wednesday, July 25th at 3:52 pm. Grundy County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded within several minutes, obtained a suspect description and learned that a suspect fled on a motorcycle. Sheriff’s detectives conducted a canvass of the area, spoke with witnesses and were able to develop leads on the suspects. Canterbury and Fisher were taken into custody within 24 hours of the robbery and were arrested after being interviewed by Sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Callahan credits the bank employees for remaining calm and following their protocol, the numerous citizens for calling or sending messages via social media to report leads and the diligent police work of the staff of the Sheriff’s Office in the timely arrests. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be forthcoming. “The community partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the residents of Gardner and Grundy County is the reason this incident and others are able to be resolved quickly,” Sheriff Callahan stated.
