STAFF REPORT

Students and teachers might not be ready, but the return to school is just five weeks away and that means it’s time to get the kids registered for classes.
The first day of student attendance is set for Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Returning student registration is accessible through the district’s website at www.coalcityschools.org. On-line registration must be completed by July 30.

Walk-in registration for students new to the district will be held over two days—Thursday, July 14 from 7-10 a.m. and Tuesday, July 19 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the district’s administration center, 550 S. Carbon Hill Rd.

Parents must complete the on-line pre-registration form prior to attending the walk-in session to prove residency.

To prove residency in the district parents must provide a copy of a mortgage bill, tax bill, real estate sales agreement or lease. Also, parents/guardians will need to show a driver license or state identification.

Additionally, parents must provide an Illinois State Board of Education student transfer form, however this does not apply to students transferring in from out of state or those new to pre-kindergarten or kindergarten, and should it apply any legal documents regarding issues of custody, orders of protection, independent student.

Within 30 days of enrollment a parent must provide the student’s original birth certificate and proof of compliance with state health physical and immunization requirements.

The cost to register a student for the 2022-2023 school year is $40, pre-kindergarten; $60, kindergarten to fifth grade; $75 middle school, and $90 for high school. Students enrolling in driver’s education will be required to pay an additional $125.

Students participating in athletics in grades 5-12 will be required to pay a $25 participation fee.

The cost this year for non-eligible bus students to receive transportation services is $600 per student.

Lunch and milk fees are being reinstated this school year as the free school lunches for all, supported by the federal government during the pandemic, is ending.

A school lunch will cost $3 per student, per day at the early childhood center and elementary school, $3.05 at the intermediate and middle schools and $3.40 at the high school. A carton of milk will cost 40 cents at all buildings during the lunch hours.

Breakfast will be $1.55 per student, per day in grades kindergarten to fifth grade, with morning milk cost at 30 cents.
