Sharefest Success in Wilmington!

Area churches pitched in for the third annual Sharefest event on Aug. 6, and this year the amount of food given away was impressive.

Vehicles lined up on the service road from Wilmington High School to Steven’s Intermediate School where over 9 tons of food including fresh produce, dairy, cereals, egg whites and canned items were loaded.

Several vehicles were filled to capacity by 10 or more volunteers at a time. Participants started at the high school campus where there were free services offered from over 15 organizations. There were free haircuts for youngsters, just in time for back to school, inflatable houses and free bicycles on a first come, first served basis. There were 40 bikes available and most were gone within minutes.

Since its inception Sharefest has grown in size and in volunteers.
