Sandra Altiery

BRAIDWOOD—Sandra Sue Altiery (nee Amiot), 75, of Braidwood, passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born May 2, 1942 in Kankakee, Sandra Sue was a daughter of Leon Orville and Della Florence (Collette) Amiot. She was raised in Joliet, attended the Cathedral of St. Raymond School and graduated from Providence Catholic High School with the class of 1960. On Dec. 29, 1962, Sandy married Eugene B. Altiery in the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, and later went back to school to earn her associates degree from Joliet Junior College.
Sandy worked for St. Rose School in Wilmington before gaining employment with Villa Franciscan in Joliet. It was here that Sandy worked in the business office, activities department, and retired from social services after 18 years. She was a former member of St. Rose Catholic Parish in Wilmington, and currently belonged to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Braidwood. As an active volunteer and dedicated member of Immaculate Conception, Sandy belonged to the Legion of Mary, regularly participated in Adoration, served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, counted the collection and taught religious education. Her Catholic faith and family were of utmost importance to Sandy. She will be remembered for her attentiveness to the sick and dying, as well as for her love of her family.
Survivors include her husband, Geno; five children: Geno Jr. (Elizabeth) Altiery, of San Diego, CA; Tony Altiery and Lisa Altiery, both of Braidwood; Dawn (Dennis) Keene, of Manteno and Vicky (Bob) Williams, of Braidwood; eight grandchildren: Christopher Altiery, Nickolas Altiery, Madison Altiery, Kara Keene, Isabel Keene, Jordan Williams, Reilley Williams and Justin Williams; one great-grandson, D.J. Murphy; one sister, Collette Weikum, of Naperville; one brother, William Amiot, of Kissimmee, FL; brother-in-law, Daniel (Debbie) Altiery, of Braidwood; sister-in-law, Ellen (Gene) Thomas, of Woodbine, GA and one aunt, Rose Slimack, of Joliet, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Jackie Ziegle, James Amiot, Carol Tatro and Theresa Chovan.
Visitation and video tribute will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd. in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Thursday, meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 S. School St. in Braidwood, where a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Reverend Robert Noesen will officiate.
Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Pallbearers will be: Geno Altiery Jr., Tony Altiery, Dennis Keene, Bob Williams, Chris Altiery and Nick Altiery.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Sandy’s memory to her family for their distribution.
