Roy Darin

MORRIS— Roy Darin, 95, of Wauponsee, Township, Morris, passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 22, 2022 at Arcadia Care of Morris.  
Born March 30, 1927 in Morris, Roy James was a son of Anthony & Marie (Haldorson) Darin. He attended Thum Grade School and graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1945. Roy married Shirley Mickelson on Aug. 27, 1949 in Morris. Together they cherished 72 years and lived their entire life in the same home until the last month when Roy became ill.  Roy farmed his entire life in Wauponsee Township and was also a dairy farmer for 26 years.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid reader.
Roy’s favorite pastime was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He got much enjoyment out of taking them for rides on his John Deere Gator.  He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Morris; served as sexton for the Sample Cemetery for over 50 years, and was on the Southard Drainage District for 35 years.  Roy was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, and loved anything to do with farming
Survivors include his wife Shirley, and their 3 children: Diane Olson of Morris, Ron (Leslie) Darin of Davis Junction, IL and Jim (Marla) Darin of Morris; 10 Grandchildren; 19 Great-Grandchildren, his brother-in-law, Tom (Germaine) Mickelson of Yorkville, IL
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Anthony in infancy, Willie, Leo and John Darin; two sisters: Rita Brown and Mary Talty, and one son-in-law, John Olson. 
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2022  at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 East Jackson Street in Morris ,from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Jason Stone, and assisted by Deacon Paul Jung. Burial will follow in Sample Cemetery, Morris.
Preferred memorials in lieu flowers may be as gifts in Roy’s memory to Lightways Hospice, 205 Water Stone Circle Joliet, IL 60431 or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
