Petition filing dates set for March General Primary Election

Grundy County Clerk Kay Olson announced that established political party, Grundy County candidates, wishing to appear on the March 20, 2018 General Primary ballot may begin picking up petition packets from the county clerk's office, Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at 8 a.m. Candidates may also download the packets from the county clerk's website at www.grundyco.org, under Election Information, and may also request a petition packet by e-mail, by contacting the clerk's office at elections@grundyco.org.
The first day to circulate petitions for signatures is Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017.  Grundy County offices to be nominated at the primary include county clerk, sheriff, treasurer, county board members for Districts 1, 2 and 3 and precinct committeemen. Precinct committeemen will be elected at the General Primary Election.
Petitions may be filed in person by the candidate, or a candidate representative, beginning Monday, Nov. 27 through Monday, Dec. 4, 2017. The clerk's office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will be open until 5 p.m. on the last day of filing. Petitions may also be filed by mail, by mailing to: Grundy County Clerk, 111 E. Washington St., Room 12, Morris IL  60450.
Please note that the county clerk and staff cannot provide legal opinions regarding petition papers. Prospective candidates are encouraged to consult their own legal advisors on questions related to their petition packets. Once petition papers are filed, they cannot be changed or amended. Please note that a candidate's nominating papers are subject to legal challenge by qualified objectors.
The 2018 Candidates Guide and 2018 Election and Campaign Disclosure Calendar are available online, at the Illinois State Board of Elections website at http://elections.il.gov.
Petition packets for independent and new party candidates will be available after the March Primary.
