Ollie R. Grabowski

    OHIO—Ollie R. Grabowski, 90, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Park Pointe Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Morris, IL on Feb. 18, 2018.
    Ollie was born in Toledo on Aug. 19, 1927, to Joseph and Mary (Przystal) Grabowski and was the youngest of eight children. Ollie married Rose Pacholek on July 24, 1948, in Toledo and had two children, Kenneth (DeAnne), of Coal City, IL and Robert, of Guthrie, OK, both surviving. Following Rose's death in 1974, he married Rae Eakin, but later divorced; she preceded him in death. In 2003, he married Marie Andrews; she also preceded him in death.
    After a shortened high school career, Ollie enlisted in the US Navy in August of 1945 and was honorably discharged in August of 1946 due to the end of the war. Within a week after his discharge, Ollie submitted his application to A & P Tea Company where he worked for 48 years in the Eight O'Clock Coffee and Produce departments, retiring in 1994. He was among the founding families of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church and a member of the American Legion. He loved to polka dance, take bus trips, play cards, and travel. He always enjoyed volunteering wherever he was needed, especially at parish dinners and bingo, the Valentine Theater, and loved traveling to Illinois to spend holidays and special occasions with his family.
    He will be remembered as a hard working, dedicated husband and father, who was a very giving man and loved by all.
    Along with his children, Ollie is survived by three grandchildren: Jason, of Chicago, IL; Kristin (Billy) Straus, of Naples, FL and Sean, of Coal City, IL along with many nieces and nephews.
    Ollie was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: John, Walter, Raymond and Julius and his sisters: Vernell, Mary and Ann.
    The family will greet friends and family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at WK Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Highway, Toledo, OH.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heather Downs Blvd, Toledo with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Toledo. After the burial, a luncheon will take place at Scott Park Banquet Hall, 2541 Nebraska Ave., Toledo.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ollie's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
