Movie Night to kick-off summer park events

  The Coal City Park Board, in conjunction with the village of Coal City and local sponsors, will present a series of summer events in Campbell Memorial Park and will kick-off the season with a movie night.
    “Wonder,” an Academy Award-nominated film based on the New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, will be shown on the big screen Saturday, June 9. The film  follows the life of Auggie Pullman, a young man with a facial deformity, as he leaves the confines of his home to start middle school.
    The movie begins at 8:30 p.m., admission is free, popcorn and concessions will be available.
    Sponsors for movie night include D Construction, Berkot’s Super Foods, Riverside Medical Center, Cardinal Transport, Babe’s Tap and Lori Bonarek Realty.
    The summer line-up also includes the annual Cruise Night from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Admission is $5 per car parked along South Broadway starting at 3 p.m. The band “Bad Choices” will play in the park. There will be raffles and a celebrity judge’s award.
    “Felix and Fingers” dueling pianos return to the park on Saturday, July 28 for a performance under the gazebo from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
    The second movie night is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18 and “Nut Job II” will be shown.
    And, for a third year the village will host its popular Market Fresh on Broadway farmers markets.
    A dozen vendors are already signed up to participate in the markets that run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 21, Aug. 4 and 18 and Sept. 1 and 15. The markets also include a variety of entertainment and food vendors.
