On July 8, Christian Micetich marked the completion of renovations to the Community Veteran's Monument, an effort started last fall as his Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout community service project.
Micetich planned the improvements, raised money and solicited donated labor and material for upgrades to the monument including new sidewalks, coating the base, and installation of two additional black granite panels on the south face to accommodate additional veterans' names.
This project was supported by St. Juvin Post 1336 Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 796, Coal City Community School District 1, local businesses, and the entire community. Coal City High School conducted a Military Appreciation Night at the home opener football game with the sale of memento T-shirts and other schools donated the profits from the sales of red, white and blue popsicles to the Community Veteran's Monument Fund held at First Midwest Bank's Coal City Branch.
Many individuals made contributions and Morris Granite donated the labor and materials needed to install the new panels purchased with funds raised by Micetich.
The members of St. Juvin Post and the Coal City American Legion Post appreciate the support of all those who pitched in to bring this project
