Martin Armstrong

MORRIS—Martin Edward “Marty” Armstrong, 76, of Morris, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 at Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehab Center in Morris.
Marty was born June 12, 1942 in Wilmington to Harold Martin Armstrong and Altha Hooper Armstrong Kilbride. He was raised and attended schools in Coal City. He married Nancy Knop on Nov. 27, 1961. He worked at the Paper Mill in Coal City, then was employed with Joliet Caterpillar, retiring in 1993 after 31 and a half years as a tool grinder. He was an avid Nascar fan. In his earlier days, Martin pitched horse shoes with his in-laws and friends. He enjoyed working on his own cars and loved to ride his 4 wheeler. He looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Marty is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy; daughters, Becky (Hibbler) Armstrong and Jodi Armstrong, both of Morris; sister, Jean (Robert) Zimmerman, of Morris; granddaughters, Julie Hibbler, of Morris and Devin Hibbler, of Chicago; one great-grandson, Gavin, of Morris and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He also held his extended in-law family near and dear to his heart: Angela Jewett, of Ottawa; Elvera (the late Russell) Merkel, of Ocala, FL; the late Eddie and Donna Knop, Richard (Wanda Bertoglio) Knop and Larry (Sharon) Knop, all of Verona; Mary Lou (the late Jim) Walker, of Braidwood and Michael Knop, of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy, Jeffery Martin Armstrong; his sister, Lynn; his brother, Robert; his step-brother, Harold Jr. and his father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Lillian Knop.
Per Martin's request, cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church, 225 George St., Morris from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Refreshments will be served.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at noon also at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Phil Arnold officiating.
