Man charged after attacking family members and officers

Wilmington Police Department officers were called to a residence on the 1500 block of North Kankakee Street on Dec. 31, after a man, Titus A. Hiera, 34, had attacked two of his family members in what appeared to be a psychotic rage.
When officers arrived on the scene Hiera again became aggressive, this time toward the officers. After punching and kicking one of the Wilmington officers, he resisted arrest as another Wilmington officer and Will County Deputy attempted to take him into custody. Officers had to deploy a taser before finally getting control of Hiera.
Due to Hiera’s emotional state, he was transported to Riverside Hospital in Kankakee for a psychological evaluation.
On Jan. 9, the Honorable Judge Fred Harvey signed a warrant for Hiera’s arrest after the State’s Attorney’s office charged Hiera with aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated battery to a senior citizen, and three counts of domestic battery.
Hiera was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility to await bond. During a bond hearing on the morning of Friday, Jan. 10, bond was set at $25,000. Hiera has to post $2,500 bail to be released.
