Lawrence Edward Maly

    SPOKANE, WA— Lawrence Edward Maly, 86, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 of a sudden illness.
    Lawrence was born on May 4, 1931 in Wilmington, IL to Charles and Mary Ann (nee Friddle) Maly. He was raised in Wilmington and Braidwood, IL until his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force in 1950, which brough him to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA. He served with the 92nd Bombardment Squadron during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.
    Lawrence met the love of his life, Evelyn Lois Shaffer at a dance and married her May 9, 1953 at Ft. George Wright Chapel in Spokane. Together they had four children. After his time in the service, Lawrence entered a bricklayer apprenticeship and was a long time member of the local bricklayers union. He left his mark all over the Northwest and city parks with his career at Spokane’s Parks Dept.
    Lawrence loved the Lord and loved his family. He greeted everyone with a smile and a wave, loved to dance and sing with the church choir. He had a special way with children, building lasting relationships and will be missed dearly.
    He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; children, Anne Marie (Dennis) Overbay, Laura (Stephen) Nelson, and Alan Maly;  seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and brothers Charles Maly and Robert Maly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Ann; beloved son Kendal; and his siblings James, Franklin, George, Fredrick, Blanche, Louis, Ronald and Kenneth.
    Visitation was held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA. Burial and graveside services were at Fairmount Memorial Park. The following day a memorial service was held at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church.
    Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 West Wellesley Ave., Spokane, WA was in charge of arrangements.
