Larry Smith

GARDNER—Larry Smith, “Bebop,” 73, of Gardner, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born Sept. 22, 1943 in Ottawa, IL, Larry Duane was a son of William Haywood and Glenna Julia (Rentz) Smith. He was raised and educated in Coal City, and on Oct. 28, 1967, Larry married Diane Marie Maland in Assumption Catholic Church.
He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, the Mazon Lodge #826 A.F. & A.M. and the Laborers Local #75. Larry was employed by Grainco FS, from where he retired after 20 years of service. He enjoyed darts and tending to his lawn. Larry will be remembered for his love of coffee, and driving around visiting his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; daughter, Anmaree Mora, of Wheaton; son, Jason (Andrea) Smith, of Coal City; five grandchildren: Arianna and Kaitlin Mora and Paityn, Keegan and Ava Smith; one sister, Rita (the late Harry) Kline, of Marseilles; two brothers, Dennis (Lucille) Smith, of Chandler, AZ and William (Peggy) Smith, of Florida; his mother-in-law, Betty Maland, of Coal City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Nancy Smith, of Nevada; Russ Mading, of Ottawa; Carol (Don) Young, of Shorewood and Judy (Tony) Morgese. of Canton, GA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, his twin, Jerry Smith in infancy and Wadsworth “Buddy” Smith; one sister, Linda Mading; his special aunt, Naomi Francois, and his father-in-law, James Maland.
Arrangements are pending at this time under the direction and care of Reeves Funeral Homes, Ltd., 75 N. Broadway in Coal City.
