James C. Cummins

NEW LENOX— James Christopher Cummins, 94, of New Lenox, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 15, 2021 at his home. Born Nov. 25, 1926 in Springfield, IL to Walter and Mary Ann (nee Quinn) Cummins. Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the New Lenox VFW Post # 9545 and the American Legion Thomas E. Hartung Post #1977. He was also a previous member of the Lockport MOOSE. James retired as a pipefitter from the Ford Motor Company in 1988. He was known to be a handyman and enjoyed his career at Ford pipefitting and he also did carpentry, which he was proud to have built the house he lived in.
Surviving are five children, Ronald Cummins of New Lenox, James (Julie) Cummins of New Lenox, Deacon Greg Cummins of Braidwood, Lori (Richard) Haggard of Joliet, and Mary (Bob) Hanrahan of New Lenox; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Wanda (nee Jones) Cummins (5/7/2014), whom he married December 15, 1951 in Joliet; daughter, Janelle Cummins; twin boy and girl in infancy; one sister, Mary (Ed) D'Amato; and three brothers, John (Jean) Cummins, Matthew (Irene) Cummins, and Walter (Beverly) Cummins.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Visitation for James will be at the Immaculate Conception Church: 110 S. School St., Braidwood, Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.
Inurnment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
