The Grundy County Health Department announced on Tuesday the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 increased to 26, a number reflecting just two new cases in the past week.
According to data provided by the health department the new cases involve a male in his 50s and a female in her 40s. In total, 11 males and 15 females in the county have tested positive for the virus since the first case was identified here on March 23.
Grundy County public health administrator Michelle Pruim reports of the 26 cases, 16 have completed the recommended isolation period and have been released from isolation.
Public health officials work with each positive person and close contacts who are determined to be high risk for at least 14 days from onset of symptoms.
According to information posted by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), 14 of Grundy County’s cases are within the 60450 zip code—Morris. The other cases are in areas with fewer than five cases, thus the agency does not reported by zip code.
Pruim further reports this week that 137 Grundy County residents have tested negative for the virus. As of press time Tuesday, IDPH was reporting 148,358 people had been tested with a confirmed count of 31,508.
“The state of Illinois continues to strive for additional testing, and with this we may see an increase in positive cases. We shall continue to assume that COVID-19 is widespread in Grundy, and may be for some time. Residents should continue to practice social distancing so as to keep our number of cases minimal in Grundy,” Pruim said.
She further adds county residents should continue to adhere to the governor’s stay at home order which is currently in effect through April 30 and only leave home for essential reasons. When in public individuals should wear a mask to protect those around them.
