Staff report

The first case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Braidwood has been confirmed in a statement by the Braidwood Fire Protection District on Monday.
No identifying information about the patient has been released except that the person resides in the Braidwood Fire Protection District.
The Fire District found out about the case after it appeared on the Will County Health Department map of positive COVID-19 cases when it was released on Sunday.
Braidwood Fire Chief Barry Eggers said based on the map, the Fire District did not have an ambulance call in the approximate vicinity the confirmed COVID-19 patient's dot is located in the last two weeks.
Eggers said the Fire District currently does not know the name of the patient.
"We changed how we're responding to EMS calls, like every other department is also," Eggers said on Monday. "...  this makes the crews be on more alert footing that their mask is on right, their gloves are on right, the gown is on, the booties are on — that everything is set. That's a nice advantage for protecting our personnel. But we should be doing that for all our patients because within any part of day they could have been in contact with someone who is positive. Somebody that tested was negative yesterday may test today and be positive," he said.
The Braidwood Fire Protection District is seeking supplies — goggles, gloves, N95 masks, surgical masks, gowns and booties. Eggers would like to thank the residents that have dropped off the home sewn masks from residents and said that they have enough of those presently on hand.
The Fire District will continue to share daily updates of the Will County Health Department map on the Braidwood Fire Department Facebook page.
At the time of publication, there have been 224 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and six deaths in Will County.
