Farmers market opens Thursday

Summer is in full bloom and that means its once again time for the village of Coal City’s farmers market—Market Fresh on Broadway — to begin its season.
The popular community event opens Thursday, July 11 and will be highlighted by locally grown produce, herbs, fresh cut flowers and handcrafted items. Held in Campbell Memorial Park, 580 S. Broadway, the market will be open from 4 to 7 p.m.
This summer marks the fourth season for the market that will continue throughout the season with six additional markets.
A dozen vendors are currently signed on to participate this summer. The opening market will include seven vendors, all whom are returning for another season.
The Rogue Curbside Kitchen food truck will once again be parked in the park for the market. Chef Jacob will be serving sandwiches crafted with locally-sourced meat and eggs.
Additional vendors taking part in the opening day market are:
• Apisera Craftworks— Organically grown vegetables, herbs, homemade pickles, jams and sauces, as well as live plants, handmade items and jewelry.
• Candy and Corn—Sno-cones, smoothies, cotton candy, gourmet and buttered popcorn and assorted candy.
• Nettle Creek Lavender Farm—Dried lavender bouquets, plants, lavender and herba-inspired bath and body products, home decor, herb bouquets, fresh cut flowers and bouquets.
• Perkins Farm—Variety of garden grown vegetables.
• Store House Farm—Mushrooms, peppers, salad mix and cut flowers.
• Sunshine Garden Center—Plants, cut flowers, locally produced items.
• Wills Sweet Corn—Locally grown sweet corn.
The first Saturday market of the season is set for July 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional markets are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3, Thursday, Aug. 8, Saturday, Aug. 17, Saturday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 21.
