Farmers market open Saturday

The village of Coal City is hosting its second market of the season Saturday as part of National Farmers Market Week.
Held the first full week of August when fruits and vegetables are plentiful, the observance of Farmers Market Week serves to show the value markets bring to communities.
Farmers markets like Coal City’s Market Fresh on Broadway have a broad impact on communities and stimulate community investment.
Coal City’s event provides shoppers with an opportunity to purchase locally-grown produce and handcrafted items including tomatoes, sweet corn, potatoes even socks and soaps.
Saturday’s market will be from 8 a.m. to noon in Campbell Memorial Park, across from the Coal City Police Station.
Vendors scheduled to participate include Albo Acres, featuring various items constructed from alpaca fiber; Wills Family Farm, locally grown sweet corn; Perkins Farm, variety of seasonal garden fresh vegetables, and Nettle Creek Lavender Farm, fresh lavender bouquets, teas, sprays, lip balm, honey and more.
Additional market days are scheduled for Aug. 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 12 and Sept. 26.
