Elizabeth Roark
WILMINGTON—Elizabeth Roark, 84, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 at the Arc of Dwight.
Born July 5, 1938 in New Haven, IL, Elizabeth Lorraine was a daughter of Vondalee (nee Wicker) Clayton-Bean. She was raised and educated in New Haven where she went on to graduate from the local high school.
On July 2, 1956, Elizabeth married Clyde Roark, and together they made a home and moved to the Wilmington area in 1962. She worked for the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant for a period and later took a position with Johnson & Johnson Personal Products in Wilmington, from where she retired.
Throughout the years, Elizabeth enjoyed vacationing on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and she took pleasure in reading and cooking. Family was always of utmost importance, and she cherished watching the kids and grandchildren in their school activities and sports.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Jodi Roark, of Wilmington; grandchildren: Tanner Roark, of Atlanta, GA; Samantha Lide, of Custer Park and Dillon (Becca) Roark, of Wilmington; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Madison, Kennedy, Brooks, Cam and Macie; two brothers, Jack Bean and Lester Lawson; her brother-in-law, Howard Roark; one sister-in-law, Hazel Browning and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clyde in 2005, and siblings: Ruth Bean, Karen Cashmore, Roy Bean, Jennie May, Mary Lesniewski, Kathy Bertolozzi and Jim Bean.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and the family is planning a celebration of Elizabeth’s life at a later date.
