Drama Club to host musical cabaret

Songs from more than a dozen Broadway musicals will be performed by local theatre students when Coal City High School’s Drama Club presents its second annual Broadway Bound musical cabaret.
The evening will serve as a fundraiser for the club’s 2021 theatre education trip to New York City.
From auditions held earlier this month, theatre director Jack Micetich has selected 22 middle and high school students to take the stage for the Sept. 21 fundraiser.
The performers will present an evening of some of Broadway’s best musical theatre songs, while guests enjoy hors d´oeuvres and desserts inspired by New York City and the shows that have graced the Great White Way, including a few favorites of the theater department’s creative team.
At the request of the Drama Club, Alex Duffy, a student at Morris Community High School, will serve as special guest host for the evening. He most recently appeared on stage as Edna Turnblad in Small Town Theatrics production of Hairspray.
The community is invited to join the drama club at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 for this special event in the Coal City High School cafeteria.
General admission tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased by logging on to broadwaybound.brownpapertickets.com.
Performing will be Coal City High School students Zoe Smith, DeKotah Rueger, Kaylee Groves, Gabe Ludes, Eli Fritz, McKenna Patten, Trinity Pedigo, Griffin Johnson, Shanna Kelly, Brecken Johnson, Tessa Brancato, Addey Connor, Izzy Kostbade, Chloe Peacock, Aiden Kostbade, Riley Nevin and Courtney Meyer.
Middle school performers are Mason Natyshok, Ava Houston, Stephen Byers, Bella Byers and Melody Kinder.
All proceeds from Broadway Bound will off-set the students travel costs to New York City. The educational trip will allow students to explore careers in the theatre arts through interactive workshops with Broadway actors, theatre and backstage tours and Broadway productions.
