Dorothy E. Rhodes

MORRIS—Dorothy E. Rhodes, "Dotty,"  93, of Morris, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at Morris Hospital.
Born July 7, 1924 in Framingham, MA, Dorothy Elizabeth was a daughter of Bernard and Agnes (nee McMullan) Weeks. She was raised and educated in Whitman, MA where she met Harry Raymond Rhodes Sr. while he was in the Navy  and on May 26, 1946 they were happily married. After getting married, the newlyweds moved to Harry's hometown in Missouri where he farmed for several years. Later they moved to Illinois by way of Iowa where they continued to raise their family. Dotty was a devoted mother who liked simple things. She would spend her time at the Church of God in Wilmington, as well as busying herself with such hobbies as reading, crocheting and dancing. Dotty also had a competitive side when it came to games like bingo and rummy.  Her most treasured times though were spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and furry grandkids, Dolly Jo and Mr. T.
Survivors include her children: June (Frank) Roudis of Morris, Robert (Debra) Rhodes of Dwight, Nancy (Sam) Shelton-Young of Diamond and Mary Lue (Vern) Heilman of Galesburg, KS; grandchildren: Scott (Karen) Roudis and Bryan (Holly) Roudis both of Morris, Rob (Lesa) Rhodes of Dwight, Jim (Debbie) Rhodes of Braidwood and Jason Rhodes of Gardner; great-grandchildren: Keri and Skyler Roudis and Shelby and Carter Rhodes; great-great-grandchildren: Grace, Jayce and Lorenzo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Harry Raymond Rhodes Jr.; sisters, Edna Flanagan and Marion Roberts, and son-in-law. Paul Shelton.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 E. Washington St., one block east of Illinois Route 47 in Morris. Funeral services will follow Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Steve Larson with the First Baptist Church of Morris will preside.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, where Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband, Harry.
Pallbearers will be: Jason Rhodes, Jim Rhodes, Scott Roudis, Bryan Roudis and Rob Rhodes.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Dorothy's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Joliet Area Community Hospice.
