Doris Murphy

GENESEO—Doris J. Murphy, 87, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 at KSB Hospital in Dixon, IL.
Doris was born on March 4, 1930, she was the daughter of Anton and Ramona (Wharrie) Scubic in Coal City, IL. She graduated from Coal City High School. Doris married E. James Murphy on Sept. 3, 1949.
Doris worked as the office manager for Jim Smith Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in Coal City, IL for many years. She enjoyed antiquing and flower gardening. Doris was an avid college basketball and Notre Dame Football fan. She also enjoyed staying up to date on the Geneseo sports teams.
One of Doris's greatest joys was her great-grandson Jack. Doris was a member of the Eastern Star organization and the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City.
Survivors include her daughter Carol Washburn, Geneseo, IL; her brother, Dale (Patricia Vidmar) Scubic, Coal City, IL; grandson James (Sarah) Washburn; and great-grandson Jack Murphy Washburn.  Doris is also survived by her grand-dog Sadie, and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Ramona; her husband James in 2001; her sister in-law Patricia Halliday Scubic; brother and sister in-law Frank and Louise Hanley; and several other brother in-laws and sister in-laws.
. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Abraham
Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Humane Society's Building Fund or the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, IL.
 Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood and Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with these arrangements.
Cremation services have been made under the direction of Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, 580 E. Ogden Ave., Geneseo.
