Doris Glidden

PLAINFIELD—Doris Rae “Dorie” Bobzin Glidden, 77, of Plainfield, IL, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home in Joliet, IL.  
She was born in Joliet on April 22, 1940 to Frank W. and Clara F. (Werner) Bobzin. She graduated from Lincoln Way High School in 1958 and earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1979.  Doris was an accomplished genealogist and published five books on family history.  She worked many years at the Grundy County Health Department and also as a health services secretary at offices in Morton and Joliet IL.  She took great joy in travel abroad to Australia, Oceana and Europe with her family. Doris was a dedicated volunteer in her churches and communities, leading music in nursing homes and ecumenical bible schools, organizing activities for senior citizens, serving as treasurer for thethe United Prespyterian Women of Bloomington Presbytery, and as secretary for women's groups in five congregations.  
Surviving are her beloved husband of 57 years, Rev. Charles “Ted” Glidden, of Plainfield, IL, who she married Sept. 4, 1960 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Manhattan, IL. Dorie is also survived by one daughter, Cynthia (Terence) Glidden-Tracey, of Tempe, AZ; one son, Robert (Jackie Smith) Glidden, of Pittsburgh, PA; four grandchildren,:Trevor Tracey, Braeden Richardson, Melody Richardson and Kendra Westmoreland; one sister, Marilyn (the late William) Boyle, of Manhattan, IL; one son-in-law, Bruce Richardson and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.              Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter, Melissa Richardson; one sister, Elaine (the late Joseph) Jung and one infant brother.  
Visitation was held at the Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State Street, Manhattan, IL, on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018.  A private graveside service was in the Manhattan Center Cemetery.  
A celebration of Doris's life is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1015 Winthrop Avenue, Joliet, IL 60435 with meal to follow.  
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Manhattan or the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Joliet would be appreciated.
