Dennis E. Punke

MAZON—Dennis E. Punke, 62, of Mazon, passed away peacefully at his home  Saturday, May 27, 2017, surrounded by family.
Born Dec. 11, 1954 in Morris, Dennis Eugene was a son of Dale Eugene and Mary Ellen (Lee) Punke. He was raised and educated in Mazon and graduated from MVK High School with the class of 1973. On Sept. 1, 1972, Dennis married Mary Cushing in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they made their home and raised their family in Mazon.
Dennis began working at Quantum in 1989, and continued his career at the same plant, where he was currently employed with LyondellBasell as a maintenance coordinator. He truly enjoyed his yard, and took great pride in tending to the lawn and garden. One of Denny's greatest hobbies was restoring tractors, and he will most be remembered for the cherished time he spent with his family and grandchildren.
To quote Stuart Scott,  "You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live."
Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ron Anderson of Mazon and son and daughter-in-law, David and Christi Punke of Morris; five grandchildren: Patrick J. Anderson, Scott M. Anderson, Jacie Punke, Mara Punke and Ashlyn Punke, as well as James Miller, who was like a grandson; one sister, Diane; two brothers, Darryl and Doug; brothers and sisters-in-law: JoAnn (Don) McCluckie of Aurora, Carol (Ed) Walker and Janice Feltenz, both of Mazon and John (Karen) Cushing of Glen Carbon, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean.
Visitation and video tribute will be held at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway, one block north of Illinois Route 113 in Coal City on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 3:30 p.m. until time of remembrance and celebration of life at 7:30 p.m.
Green flameless cremation rites will be accorded following the services, and a private inurnment will be in Mazon Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Denny's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice or to the MVK Ambulance.
