The village of Coal City and the Park Board are teaming up with the Joliet Slammers for a community night event.
Coal City Community Night at the DuPage Medical Group Field is set for Saturday, June 15 when the Slammers take on the Washington Wild Things in a 6:05 p.m. game.
Coal City Village Administrator Matt Fritz reports the village has teamed with several community organizations to be a part of the special event.
The village purchased 300 tickets for community groups to sell. The cost to attend the game is $10 per person and for every ticket the organization sells they keep $8. Groups selling tickets are Girl Scout Troop 70814, Hope Helps, Coal City Area Baseball and Softball, Coal City 4-H and Coal City Elementary School.
Tickets can also be purchased at Coal City Village Hall and proceeds from those sales will go toward Park Board events, as will a 50/50 raffle to be conducted at the park.
The Coal City Community Night happens to fall on Star Wars Night at the ball park and the Slammers will be having a signature night event featuring former Chicago Cub Gary Matthews. And, the fun doesn’t end after the final pitch. Those attending are encouraged to stick around for the fireworks.
“The village has been looking for some time to work with community organizations and this was the perfect opportunity to assist local groups while effectively getting a whole community night at the park,” Fritz said. “I think you will see a lot of people in the park that night enjoying a good game for good causes.”
