Coal City baseball, softball look ahead to Regional

    Coal City’s varsity baseball and softball teams enter Regional play next week, where they will face some stiff competition with the ultimate goal of making it to state.
    The Lady Coalers enter as the seventh seed in the Morris Regional, as they host Plano (10) on Monday in the first game. The game starts at 4:30 p.m.
    The winner will advance to the semifinals, where they will compete against second seed Providence Catholic.
    The team that makes the Regional final will face the winner of Morris (3) vs. Kankakee (6).
    In baseball, the Coalers will kick things off in the semifinals as the fourth seed team, playing against Ottawa (5). Coal City hosts the baseball Regional, with their game starting on Thursday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m.
    On the other side of the bracket, Manteno (2) will await the outcome of Morris (6) vs. LaSalle-Peru.
    The Regional championship could prove to be a tough one, as Coal City will most likely run into Manteno, who finished second in the conference.
