Butch Porterfield

WILMINGTON—Butch Porterfield, 72, of Wilmington, and formerly of Coal City, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at his home.
Born Nov. 20, 1944 in Joliet, Richard Lynn was a son of Martin Allen and Agnes (Neal) Porterfield. He was raised and educated in Wilmington, and went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. On Oct. 8, 1971, Butch married Sandra M. Hill in Wilmington. He was retired from, Commonwealth Edison after more than 20 years of service, and belonged to the New Lenox American Legion, where he served as past commander.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sandra; two sons, Dan (Stephanie) Porterfield of Coal City and Todd Porterfield of Frankfort; five grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Gershon of Arlington Heights, Danielle Porterfield and Taylor Porterfield, both of Coal City; Josh Porterfield of Indiana and Sydney Porterfield of Monee; four great-grandchildren: Hayden, Ryder, Ellie and Parker; one sister, Leslie (Chuck) Jackson of Wilmington, and one brother, Doug (Reba) Porterfield of Braidwood, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeannie Miller.
Per Butch’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd. in Wilmington. Inurnment with full military honors will immediately follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Butch’s memory to The American Heart Association.
