Bruce Handorf

BRAIDWOOD—Bruce Edward Handorf, 62, late of Braidwood, formerly of New Lenox, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee after a long and courageous battle against leukemia.
Bruce was born June 10, 1955 in Joliet to John B. and Anita J. (nee Daum) Handorf. In his youth, Bruce was a farmer of the family farm and later was a graduate of Joliet Junior College with an associates degree in agriculture. He worked at Ceco Steel Plant, and later was an employee at Norwalk Tank in Joliet for 25 years. He was currently employed by D&J Intermodal Services. Bruce was also an avid gardener and an arborist. He loved to take his girls on road trips, whether they were only to the local forest preserves or all the way to Colorado and California. His love of wood working and carpentry skills shined in all the fine furniture he would make for his closest family members. Bruce would always enjoy spending time with his grandchildren and loved to take them on vacations and spend weekends with them at the Braidwood Rec Club.  
Bruce was the loving father of Brandi (Eli) Geiss, Andrea (Ryan Burnes) Handorf, and Sarah (Jeffrey) Bettenhausen; proud grandfather of Julianna Handorf, Evan, Emily and Veronica Geiss; Brody and Mason Burnes, Daphne, JR and Leonidas Bettenhausen; beloved brother of DeAnn Handorf, Barbara (Jim) McKay, Fred (Karen) Handorf, Doug (Marilyn) Handorf and Denise (Gerald) Williams; loved uncle of numerous nieces and nephews; also survived by his dear aunts, Doris Handorf and Ethel Bruns and his dogs Bella and Vinny.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved nephew, Eugene Handorf.  
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Association or Muscular Dystrophy Association, causes dear to Bruce.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 3-8 p.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox.              Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 25, 2018 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to St. Jude Catholic Church, New Lenox for Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.  Interment will be at Mount St. Patrick Cemetery, Wilton Center.
