Bob Vasko

PEOTONE—Bob (Robert) Vasko, 79, of Peotone and a 30-year resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, 2020 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
He was born Aug. 1, 1940 in Little Village area of Chicago, which was then a Bohemian neighborhood, to John Vasko and Anna (Kovacik) Vasko. Bob served from 1958 to 1961 as a Photographer’s Mate in the United States Navy. After mustering out, he worked in the area of photography, until 1975 when he started at Argonne National Laboratory where he worked in the stock room until he retired in 2000.
Bob is best known for his custom fishing rods. He opened Island City Custom Tackle and was in business making and repairing fishing rods in Wilmington from 1984 to 2011. His other passion was fishing, which he did whenever he could.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy (Nielsen) Vasko; his son, Eric Vasko; his daughter-in-law, Michele Vasko and his grandson, Dane Barr.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 from 3 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd. in Wilmington. A procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood will depart the funeral home Thursday morning, Feb. 6, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. Military honors will be rendered at 12 p.m.
