COAL CITY—Jessie Kasher, 93, and lifelong resident of Coal City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025 at her home with her family at her side.
Born Oct. 17, 1931 in Coal City, Jessie Mae was a daughter of Joseph and Laura (Motta) Bertino. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Coal City High School. On Jan. 19, 1952, Jessie married Joseph Kasher at Assumption Catholic Church, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City.

Gary F. Faber Sr.

WILMINGTON—Gary F. Faber Sr., 85, of Wilmington and formerly of Kankakee, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025 at Citadel of Kankakee.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1939, in Kankakee, the son of John B. and Mildred (Naese) Faber. Gary married Sharon Cheffer on June 27, 1992, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Kankakee.

Vincent Biros

MAZON—Vincent “Butch” Biros, 74, of Mazon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025 at Morris Hospital.
Born June 16, 1951 in Morris, Vincent "Butch" was a son of Vincent and Alice (Debelak) Biros. He was raised in Mazon and graduated from MVK High School with the class of 1969. On Dec. 30, 1972, Butch married Marsha Leigh Helland at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they shared 52 years of marriage and raised their family in Mazon.

Carol Schumacher

WILMINGTON—Carol Schumacher, of Wilmington, passed away on Aug. 19, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on Jan. 30, 1943. Those close to her are pretty sure Alzheimer's lost that fight, and she died when she damn well got around to it. Despite the disease taking her short-term memory, she never forgot the name of someone she loved. And she never lost her fire. Anyone who had the pleasure of being warmed by that fire over her eight decades on this planet will never forget the way she saw them.

CUSTER PARK—Rosemary “Rosie” A. Skole (née Kuban),75, of Custer Park, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025. She was born Sept. 14, 1949, in Joliet, the beloved daughter of Joseph and Anna Jane (née Wilhelmi) Kuban. On June 17, 1978, Rosemary married the love of her life, Gregory Skole, in Joliet.

MAZON—Don Plot, 85, a lifelong resident of Mazon, passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet.
Born Oct. 19, 1939, Don was a son of Dennis and Lena (Sease) Plott. He was raised and educated in Mazon where he graduated from high school with the class of 1957. On Sept. 6, 1959, Don married Elizabeth Ann Gaston in Violet Hill, AR and together they made their home and raised their family in Mazon.

WILMINGTON—Michael J. Marietta Jr., 62, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born Oct. 15, 1962, in Joliet, Michael John is the son of Michael John Sr. and Barbara (Palermo) Marietta, of Wilmington. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School.

Martha Bassett

WASHINGTON—Martha Bassett, 32, formerly of Wapato, WA and later of Chicago, passed away suddenly on Sept. 28, 1968, in Wilmington. Her identity remained unknown for more than 50 years until advances in forensic science and the perseverance of investigators finally restored her name, bringing long-awaited closure to her family.

WILMINGTON—Marianne C. Brooks, 76, of Wilmington, passed away Aug. 27, 2025 at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in Joliet.
Born March 22, 1949 in Joliet, Marianne was a daughter of Fred and Ruth (Peterson) Martens. She was raised in Wilmington, graduated with the Wilmington High School class of 1967, and continued her education at Northern Illinois University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. Marianne later went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education.

COAL CTY—Debra Duras, 70, of Coal City, formerly of Chicago and Lemont, IL, passed away on Aug. 29, 2025 at Serenity Estates in Morris.
Born Nov. 10, 1954, in Chicago, Debra Lynn was the daughter of Joe and Flo Turkowski. She spent her early childhood in Chicago before her family moved to Lemont, where she attended and graduated with the Lemont High School class of 1973. On June 15, 2012, Debra married James Russell at the courthouse after waiting over an hour for the judge. Together they made their home in Coal City, where they raised their family and shared their lives.
