The class of 2021 was the first group of students to be introduced to foreign language instruction as kindergartners. Moving forward there will be no more español at the lower grade levels.
It was in 2008 that the Unit 1 Board of Education approved the implementation of a K-12 Spanish program, but after 13 years a decision has been made to eliminate foreign language instruction in grades K-5.
High school Spanish instructor Tyler Castle calls the plan a mistake and says knowledge of another language and culture has become an essential part of education.
