Jaden Christian prepares for National Junior Olympics

    Reed-Custer track star Jaden Christian had an outstanding season this past spring.
    The Comet freshman broke school records on her way to the State finals where she capped off her first year with a pair of state medals.
    Christian set a record in long jump (18’ 1”), while also setting a personal record in triple jump (37’ 2.5”).

Comets battle during 7v7, linemen challenge

    The Reed-Custer football program held its second annual 7v7 competition, and saw plenty of success along the way, giving some positive outlooks for the upcoming season.
    The friendly competition took place on Saturday, with nine other teams taking part in the 7v7 scrimmages, and 10 other teams competing in the always eventful lineman challenge.

Austin Nacey heading to The World Games

    In less than 10 days, Reed-Custer alumni and Braidwood resident Austin Nacey will be heading over to Wroclaw, Poland, to compete in the World Games.
    This will be Nacey’s first year attending the event that is on par with the Olympics. He qualified last week during the USA Gymnastics Championships in Milwaukee, WI.

Anglers net $1,800 in tagged fish during a year for big fish

    The weather cooperated this past week, as the Kankakee River Fishing Derby came to a close on Sunday.
    Fishing results were improved over last year with six tagged fish getting caught (four in 2016), but it still was below par compared to the long-term average (eight per year). That didn’t stop registered anglers from competing.
    “This is my third year being involved directly with the derby, and it was by far the best one,” said Ken Munjoy, one of the organizers. “The weather cooperated, the water level cooperated, and there were a lot of people out fishing.”

Little leaguers ready to compete in Summerfest Tournament

    Starting on Monday, area Little League teams will be back in Braidwood to compete in the fourth annual Summerfest Tournament.
    The tournament, which is hosted by the Braidwood Baseball and Softball Association, started in 2014 and has grown to one of the best times to showcase local talent.
    “We will have the home run derby, and we will also have our first games of the tournament that night,” said Jerry Curl, BBSA president.
    The home run derby will start at 5 p.m. on the Braidwood fields, with registration opening an hour prior.

Lady Comets putting in work over the summer

    The Reed-Custer volleyball program enjoyed a little fun this past week, as they held their middle school and high school volleyball camps.
    The week serves as a well-deserved break from all the hard work the athletes put in, including weight training, off-season practices and workouts.

Comet football continues cultivating young athletes

    While storms were threatening Thursday afternoon, the Reed-Custer football program was busy holding their final day of the youth football camp.
    The clouds were ominous, but that didn’t keep the kids from losing focus as Reed-Custer’s football coach Mark Wolf directed the young athletes through drills and games.

Matt Olsen throws first pitch after long road of recovery

    Matt Olsen, a long time Wilmington resident who now lives in Aurora, lived a once-in-a-lifetime experience Friday, as he threw out the first pitch for the Chicago White Sox.
    While it was full of excitement for Olsen, it was also used as a way to bring attention to a lifetime affliction he has lived with, cystic fibrosis.
    Olsen has undergone three different lung transplants, and while he has had a tough road to recovery, he was able to put his troubles behind on Friday.

Comets will appreciate the comforts of home as they travel more in ‘17

    Who’s thinking football in the middle of summer? You can bet Reed-Custer coach Mark Wolf and his Comets are now that the 2017 schedule has been released.
    While Reed-Custer won’t see much change to their schedule during 2017, they will be hitting the road more often this year.
    The Comets had five home games last year, but with the switch for the new season, they will have five on the road this fall.
