THE VILLAGE OF Manhattan learned earlier this month that a developer proposing a 2,000-acre industrial development within its planning area was working toward approval with the village of Elwood. About half of the proposed Compass Business Park will ultimately be under Manhattan’s jurisdiction. Development is proposed in three phases, and will include a dedicated bridge over Route 53 at Walter Strawn, cul-de-sacs and overhead barriers to keep trucks off of the highway and local roads.
